Self-assembly is an important mechanism to obtain new materials with different properties by employing only/mainly intermolecular interactions. It opens a wide range of possibilities without involving breaking/forming covalent bond. In other words, it minimizes the need of synthetic routes and, consequently, the use of organic and toxic solvents and the generation of residues. Self-assembly also allows to have more control of the properties due to the reversibility and response to external-stimuli. This paper reviews the recent studies involving new nanomaterials obtained by the self-assembly of different building blocks, namely biosurfactants, biopolymers and nanoparticles from renewable resources.
